Matti Salo Trio

The trio's modern jazz music is airy and melodic and delivers an intense musical experience to the listener. The communicative presence of the musicians is an essential part of the music and the live experience. All compositions are written by guitarist Matti Salo.

Alongside Salo the trio features Juho Kanervo and Simo Laihonen.

Juho Kanervo is an improvisational cellist and bassist, and an educator. He loves to explore and live in the now. Kanervo plays with several bands such as Saimaa, Ellips, Mikko Joensuu, Sagolik, Antti Pouta and Matti Salo trio. Kanervo sees the limitations imposed by different musical styles as positive challenges, within which he wants to be able to find his own musical language in connection with his fellow musicians.

The drummer Simo Laihonen, who is known as a member in the improvisation trio Black Motor, works not only with jazz and improvised music, but also with rock and contemporary folk music, as well as in several multidisciplinary projects combining music, dance and theater. In addition to Black Motor, Laihonen performs in duo acts with saxophonists Mikko Innanen and Juhani Aaltonen, in the bands of saxophonist and clarinetist Stanley Zappa, and also works on his solo music. He regularly performs with other improvisational musicians internationally.
