Out Now: Matti Salo Quartet - Tetraktys
We are proud to present the first jazz release in our label's history!
Matti Salo is a skilled multi-instrumentalist who has worked with multiple groups in the Finnish music scene. Now the time has come to release his first solo album, on which he has surrounded himself with an actively touring band of experienced Finnish jazz musicians. Besides Salo himself (guitars, percussions) the band features Sami Sippola (saxophone), Ville Rauhala (double bass) and Janne Tuomi (drums, percussions).
The tetractys was a triangle symbol held sacred by the Pythagoreans. It included all the numbers needed to describe the world. While it formed the basis for the Pythagorean musical system, it also was a representation of cosmic harmony. Matti Salo himself describes it as "a mathematical and metaphysical symbol through which all can be seen as coming into being". Salo has explored this symbol through his compositions and Tetraktys is an abstract concept album, with the story being left open for interpretation.
